Our Story

Clean This Beach Up was founded in 2019 by Maria Jose (MJ) Algarra, a Miami Beach resident who decided to create change and inspire others to love where they live, and protect what they love.

 

MJ found her inspiration and love for mother nature through yoga & meditation. One day she decided to share that light with others and began inviting friends and residents to enjoy a yoga class followed by a beach cleanup. The wave of change started with her, and quickly 5 volunteers turned into hundreds.

 

MJ has led over 170 beach cleanups all over Miami Dade County and inspired over 5000 volunteers to join her mission and create small changes in their everyday lives that will go a long way.
